Brightside Bonsai

Leah and Robert are potters whose work is rooted in the practical and aesthetic demands of bonsai. Robert has been practicing bonsai for six years, and the need for well-balanced, functional containers led them to begin making pots together in 2023 as a natural extension of that practice.

Their work focuses on proportion, durability, and quiet surfaces that support the tree rather than compete with it. Pots are made from a range of stoneware bodies and fired to cone 6 for full vitrification. Forms include round, oval, rectangular, and other traditional geometries, produced through wheel throwing, slab construction, and hybrid methods developed through ongoing refinement.

Robert brings a background in metal sculpture and long-term bonsai practice, while Leah’s background in painting, photography, and design informs surface treatment and visual balance. Most pieces are shaped collaboratively, with both contributing to form, finish, and final decisions.

Together, they approach pot making as a functional craft grounded in tradition, where each container is intended to age alongside the tree it holds.

Country: United States of America.
