Description
This jita by Italian artist Disciplina Bonsai explores the relationship between fragility and precision through structure rather than ornament.
The piece is made from a thin wooden section, approximately 1 cm thick, intentionally preserving a natural crack in the material. Rather than concealing this fracture, it is carefully held together using a traditional dovetail joint (giunzione a rondine)—a technique that transforms a point of weakness into an element of refinement and strength.
The joint becomes both functional and visual, introducing a sense of balance, rhythm, and craftsmanship. The contrast between the organic irregularity of the crack and the geometric clarity of the join creates a quiet tension, elevating the jita beyond a simple support.
The wood species will be specified, but the approach remains consistent: respect for material, visibility of process, and elegance through restraint.
