Description
Ocean Foam is a striking and atmospheric suiseki by Italian artist Felice Colombari, who continues to reveal the hidden poetry of nature through stone. This piece, carved by time and presented on an elegant Koto wood daiza, captures a breathtaking coastal moment—a dark cliff face met by the crashing sea, its white spray suspended in time.
Crafted from arenaria (sandstone), the stone features a powerful contrast in both color and texture. The base and body of the stone are rich in dark, deep tones, evoking the weight and solidity of a rugged seaside cliff. Along one side or edge, a naturally occurring white inclusion flows across the surface, creating the vivid illusion of ocean foam bursting into the air—a moment of movement carved forever into stillness.
From every angle, the piece carries the feeling of being on the edge of land, witnessing the timeless meeting of water and rock. There is tension, power, and elegance—an elemental story told without words. In its stillness, the stone feels alive, a snapshot of nature’s rhythm—the eternal crash of wave against shore.
The Koto wood daiza, crafted with precision and respect for the stone’s form, lifts and frames the piece with warmth and subtlety. It allows the stone to breathe, to float as if just above the surf, turning the composition into both a landscape and a sculptural painting in stone.
Ocean Foam invites contemplation of the sea’s dual nature: its violent grace and gentle persistence. It’s a suiseki that stirs memory, emotion, and the quiet recognition of something larger than ourselves—an intimate reflection of nature’s power, captured in form and feeling.
