Description
Forged for dense hedges
The Araki No. 123 is a two-handed hedge shear made by hand at Yoshioka, in Ono, Hyogo. The 170 mm curved blades are built for dense evergreens: box, laurel, cypress, privet. It squares large leafy surfaces and takes back the untidy outer growth that hand shears leave behind.
A serrated base that holds the branch
Near the pivot, part of the edge is serrated. The teeth hold thicker shoots in place instead of pushing them out of the blade, so the cut stays where you put it. At the base it cuts live wood up to 15 mm.
Shirogami steel and white oak
The blades are forged from Yasugi White Paper steel, a high-carbon Japanese steel that takes a fine, lasting edge. The 450 mm handles are Japanese white oak: long enough to give leverage on thick wood without forcing the wrists.
Care
Wipe the blades after each session, dry them well and leave a thin film of camellia oil before storing. Carbon steel rusts if left wet, so keep the shears away from damp. Not made for vineyards or fruit trees.
