Description
One straight blade, one serrated
The Nokokari No. 401 pairs a straight blade with a serrated one. The teeth grip leaves and shoots so they don’t slide out as the blades close. It works on hedges, shrubs and topiary, and on tough, fibrous plants such as bay laurel, pampas grass and Miscanthus.
Short handles for close work
At 500 mm overall, with 270 mm handles, this is the compact version: precise in tight spaces and on shaped forms, light enough for long sessions. The tip handles delicate shoots; the base takes green wood up to 15 mm.
SK3 steel, urasuki grind
The blades are SK3 high-carbon steel, chrome-plated and ground with the traditional urasuki hollow on the back, which keeps friction low and the edge clean. The 9 mm pivot screw has a lock nut, so the tension can be set and serviced over the years.
Care
Wipe the blades now and then with a cloth and a few drops of camellia oil. Keep the shears dry: carbon steel rusts in damp.
