This refined square planter is crafted from Vicenza stone in its distinctive “spugna” variety, a unique limestone characterized by a dense network of microscopic spherical cavities. These formations originate from ancient geological processes, where calcareous materials were deposited in warm underwater spring environments, creating a naturally porous and textured structure.

Dating between the 1930s and 1950s, this piece belongs to the Italian Rationalist and Art Deco-influenced period, when garden and architectural design embraced clean, geometric forms combined with classical proportions. Produced within the historic stoneworking districts of Veneto and Central Italy, such planters were commonly used to decorate patios, courtyards, and villa gardens.
