Description
This smaller round pot by Swedish ceramic artist Carl-Oscar Gottfries continues the new stylistic direction that defines his latest body of work. Though more compact in scale, it carries the same sculptural strength and material presence that characterize his heavier, larger vessels.
The form remains round yet naturally irregular, with a softly moving rim that avoids perfect symmetry. This subtle movement gives the piece a handmade vitality, refined but never rigid. The pot is generously coated in a thick glaze application that flows downward during firing, creating expressive drips that extend to the base. As with the larger version, the glaze itself becomes part of the structural identity, visually acting as integrated feet.
The surface features a delicate interplay of white, light blue, and soft peach tones, candid and unsaturated, in harmony with Carl-Oscar’s Scandinavian sensibility. The reduced scale enhances the intimacy of the piece, making the glaze movement feel even more concentrated and dynamic.
Compact yet bold, this pot offers a contemporary stage for smaller bonsai compositions. It maintains a strong sculptural identity while remaining versatile and balanced, an expressive ceramic vessel that brings both softness and character to a refined display.
