This Japanese White Pine has been in development since 2013, when the artist first began working on it after acquiring the tree from a Japanese nursery. Originating from Japan, the tree already possessed strong character and mature bark, offering a solid foundation for refinement.
The tree stands at 110 cm in height, supported by a nebari measuring approximately 25–27 cm, giving the composition both presence and stability. Its estimated age of around 70 years is reflected in the rugged texture of the bark and the natural movement embedded in each trunk line.
It is planted in a traditional Nanban pot by Yamaaki, whose earthy tones and handcrafted texture harmonize perfectly with the tree’s naturalistic appearance. The multi-trunk configuration evokes the feeling of an old pine growing on a mountain ridge, shaped by years of wind and weather.
Under careful development over more than a decade, the pine has been refined to highlight its elegant, upright structure and the soft yet dynamic foliage typical of the species. Each branch has been positioned to create depth, balance, and a sense of age, while maintaining the lightness and grace characteristic of Japanese White Pines.
Today, this tree stands as a mature and expressive bonsai—its proportions, pot choice, and overall composition reflecting both its Japanese origin and the thoughtful refinement undertaken since 2013.
