Description
Created by Italian artist Disciplina Bonsai, this bonsai stand is rooted in material honesty and historical reference, bringing a Romanesque sensibility into contemporary bonsai display.
The stand is crafted from elm wood sourced locally, selected directly from timber available in the artist’s environment and never cut through industrial processes. This approach preserves the natural character of the wood, allowing irregularities, grain, and density to remain part of the final form.
Its column-like legs echo Romanesque architecture, giving the piece a grounded and rhythmic presence. Along the edges, the wood is intentionally treated with a subtle faded (“sbiadito”) effect, softening the contours and creating an antique, time-worn appearance that suggests age rather than imitation.
The result is a stand that feels both architectural and organic—designed to support the bonsai with strength and dignity, while adding a quiet narrative of place, tradition, and handcraft to the composition.
